Carolina Hurricanes: Building Team Unity and Addressing Social Issues

One of the ways the Hurricanes have brought their team together is through their “Storm Surge” celebrations. These post-game events involve the entire team coming together on the ice to celebrate their victories in creative, team-bonding ways. The Hurricanes have also made efforts to support mental health awareness. In 2020, the team partnered with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to campaign for mental health awareness and encourage fans to prioritize their own mental health.
In addition to their off-ice initiatives, the Hurricanes’ team culture is also focused on supporting each other. Head Coach Rod Brind’Amour has implemented a system where players take turns cooking meals for the team, which has helped build strong relationships and a sense of community among the players.
